Sam Martinez was a 19-year-old business student at Washington State University in 2019 when he was hazed to death just weeks into his freshman year. Sam was funny and spontaneous, a loyal friend, a gifted athlete, a youth coach and a loving son and brother. His parents, Jolayne Houtz and Hector Martinez, launched hazinginfo.org in partnership with students from the University of Washington Information School to ensure incoming college students and their families have current, accurate information about student organizations so they can make informed decisions about whether to join.

Our Problem Statement: How might prospective greek life students and their families access transparent hazing information so that they can make an informed decision about joining greek life?

ideation & development

literature review

I conducted a literature review to gather insights on hazing prevention strategies and user behavior patterns, which informed the design process. This research helped identify key user needs and pain points, shaping a user-centered approach to the platform's UX design.

Market research

In my market research approach, I prioritize understanding the target audience by analyzing industry trends, competitor strategies, and consumer behavior. I combine quantitative data with qualitative insights to uncover opportunities for differentiation and craft strategies that align with both user needs and market demands.

Developed a comprehensive project plan that outlines clear objectives, timelines, and deliverables, ensuring alignment with stakeholder expectations and efficient resource management throughout the project's lifecycle.

user personas

I create detailed user personas by analyzing demographic data, user motivations, and pain points to accurately represent the target audience. These personas guide design and marketing decisions, ensuring that solutions are tailored to meet the specific needs and behaviors of key user segments.
